Make a 'NO SEW' fleece scarf... for YOURSELF and a friend!
This is a simple, fun project, that the kids will love!
A 'NO SEW' scarf is is a great way to use up your fleece scraps and can easily be made by as a
last -minute gift too!
I was putting together a picture tutorial on how to make a 'NO SEW' fleece scarf for my
Christmas Funky Friends toys and my mind began ticking over... I thought it would make a really cute gift if I could make a MATCHING scarf for the toy I was making and the person I would be giving the toy to as a gift. ...
So I 'up-scaled' the tutorial to make a 'No SEW' scarf for MYSELF! Now I'll show you how...

First let's make a 'NO SEW' fleece scarf for our toy... then one for ourselves!!!
This is the scarf I made for Slush the Snowman.
It's very simple to give your toy that festive Christmas look, just by adding a bright Christmas Red fleece scarf. You can use this technique to make a cute little scarf for ANY of your soft toys.
This quick picture tutorial will show you how it's done!
Step 1: Measure up!
You need to measure how long the scarf should be as each toy is a different size.
I use a bit of sewing machine thread to work out how long I want to make the scarf.
(For Preston the Polar Bear, I have found that a good length is TWICE around the neck!)
Step 2: Cut the scarf from fleece
Cut out a piece of fleece the same length as the piece of thread you measured. Make it about 5cm/2inches wide. (You CAN make it wider if your toy is very big and smaller for a small toy - just think about what a scarf looks like and just keep it in proportion!)
STEP 3 - cut the tassels
Cut one end at a time.
* Make one cut in the middle first, about an inch (2½ cm) long, to make 2 tassels.
* Then cut in the middle of the two tassels to make 4 tassels.
* Cut those 4 tassels in half so I end up with 8 even sized tassels!
*** Repeat on the other end.***"
STEP 4 - Wrap it up!
Wrap your scarf around the toy's neck, with one end longer than the other. Tuck the long end under the short bit, from below, and bring it 'out and over' at the top.
Adjust the two ends so they are about the same length.
STEP 5 - admire!
The final step is to sit back and admire how cute your toy looks with their new scarf!
NOW we can make a matching scarf for ourselves!
This is the scarf I made for my latest Honey Teddy Bear. I'm going to use the same bright pink fleece to make a matching adult-sized fleece scarf, for me!
Fleece usually comes in a roll 57-59 inches wide. (145cm - 150cm in metric) This is fantastic because this is a brilliant length for an adult scarf!
So all you need to do, is cut a piece about 10 inches (25cm wide).
Next we'll cut the tassels.
How to cut the Tassels:
Pin a row of pins about 5 inches (12cm) from the end of the scarf and use the pins as a guide to cut the tassels like you did for the toy scarf.
* Make one cut in the middle first, (5 inches/ 12cm long), to make 2 tassels.
* Then cut in the middle of the two tassels to make 4 tassels.
* Cut those 4 tassels in half so I end up with 8 even sized tassels!
*** Repeat on the other end.***
If you would like to make the scarf for a child, you can simply cut it a bit thinner and make it shorter. It is very hard to go wrong with a scarf! : )
